HELPING HUNGRY KIDS
of Northern Virginia
Hundreds of children in Northern Virginia need food every year. Help us provide them enough to eat.
COVID-19 Update: May 18, 2020
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) have closed for the rest of the school year. We have resumed packing about 300 bags but are staying safe by only including a few volunteers each week.
How can you help HHK during COVID-19?
Donate food to #restonSTRONG! Contact-free storage pods have been set up around Reston for various charities, including HHK. The white UNITS pods are at South Lakes Village Center and North Point Village Center. You can drop off items Wednesday-Sunday (9 am - 7 pm) for Cornerstones, Reston Hospital Center, and Helping Hungry Kids of Northern Virginia, a CORE Cause. Your donations are taken to the charity organizations daily.
HHK needs the following food: microwave popcorn, fruit cups in 100% juice, applesauce with no sugar added, granola bars, single-serve oatmeal, Pop-Tarts, single-serve Chef Boyardee, ramen noodles, single-serve mac 'n' cheese, and pudding cups.
Order from our Amazon Wish List. No donation is too small!
Donate! Please contact Ellen at with questions or for more information.
We will let our volunteers know as soon as possible if there are any other opportunities to help. We appreciate everyone's continued support. Stay tuned for updates!

Our goal is to provide packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food on weekends and during breaks.
Connie Laurent-Roy and Sandy Amato had a vision that began in a basement in Reston, Virginia in 2009. They knew not every child in Fairfax county had enough food on weekends and during school breaks. So they created Helping Hungry Kids (HHK) of Northern Virginia to serve the community.
For more than 10 years, HHK has provided packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food. Each pack costs about $6 and contains enough food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and 2-3 snacks. Pantry items include fruit cups, applesauce, pudding, cereal, soup, mac n' cheese, and milk.
We distribute more than 13,000 food packs each school year to children at 12 area elementary schools including:
We also donate more than 1,200 snacks each week for children who are often too hungry to focus on learning.
