HELPING HUNGRY KIDS
of Northern Virginia
Hundreds of children in Northern Virginia need food every year. Help us provide them enough to eat.
Update: August, 2022
This school year, Helping Hungry Kids (HHK) continues to operate out of donated space from Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation (NVHC). We are grateful for our partnership with NVHC, including their staff, congregants, and youth groups. Their generosity helps us continue our mission of feeding students in need.
HHK packs 450 bags per week for seven local elementary schools. Our volunteers assemble bags on Wednesday mornings at NVHC. Contact us at HHK@Corefoundation.org if you would like to learn more.
HHK would like to thank The Replenish Foundation for donating Generosity Feeds rice and beans packets to our bags each week. We would also like to thank Giant Food at Fox Mill, Franklin Farm, and North Point for their support. They held successful food drives to collect Chef Boyardee, a staple in our bags.
We are so thankful to our generous supporters, as we could not be doing this without you! If you would like to help, please consider the following:

Connie Laurent-Roy and Sandy Amato had a vision that began in a basement in Reston, Virginia in 2009. They knew not every child in Fairfax county had enough food on weekends and during school breaks. So they created Helping Hungry Kids (HHK) of Northern Virginia to serve the community.
For more than 10 years, HHK has provided packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food. Each pack costs about $6 and contains enough food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and 2-3 snacks. Pantry items include fruit cups, applesauce, pudding, cereal, soup, mac n' cheese, and milk.
Our goal is to provide packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food on weekends and during breaks.
We distribute more than 13,000 food packs each school year to children at area elementary schools including:
