HELPING HUNGRY KIDS
of Northern Virginia
Hundreds of children in Northern Virginia need food every year. Help us provide them enough to eat.
COVID-19 Update: September 5, 2020
Using COVID protocols, and a skeleton crew, HHK has continued to pack weekend food bags on Fridays. Since Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) closed in March, we have distributed these bags at Dogwood ES. To date, we have packed more than 2,500 bags this summer and about 4,500 bags since March.
The Vale Club has been a constant support this summer. They have collected and donated food, shopped for HHK, and volunteered their time to prepare for packing.
Heritage Fellowship Church continues to provide storage needs and food donations.
The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation has collected food at grocery stores throughout Northern Virginia and donated large amounts of food to Dogwood ES and HHK.
We are so proud that HHK has, for the first time, been able to pack and distribute food during the summer. We are so thankful to our supporters during the last six months!

Our goal is to provide packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food on weekends and during breaks.
Connie Laurent-Roy and Sandy Amato had a vision that began in a basement in Reston, Virginia in 2009. They knew not every child in Fairfax county had enough food on weekends and during school breaks. So they created Helping Hungry Kids (HHK) of Northern Virginia to serve the community.
For more than 10 years, HHK has provided packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food. Each pack costs about $6 and contains enough food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and 2-3 snacks. Pantry items include fruit cups, applesauce, pudding, cereal, soup, mac n' cheese, and milk.
We distribute more than 13,000 food packs each school year to children at 12 area elementary schools including:
We also donate more than 1,200 snacks each week for children who are often too hungry to focus on learning.
